Selling Hand Made Snoods

Greetings everyone-

I am selling hand made, crocheted snoods. I've been making them for about 5 years but have never really thought about selling them until now. The proceeds from this little venture will help fund my family's relocation to DC from Southern California (I got laid off and the job market is better there).

My snoods are made from cotton or lame crochet thread and I use glass beads and glass pearls to decorate them. Most of what I carry is in jewel tones but I do have some in lighter colors and am happy to take commissions. The snoods are posted on my journal in 3 entries: (pt. 1), (pt. 2) and (pt. 3). There are more detailed photos of the snoods on my FaceBook here. I'm modeling the snoods in the photos, and I have waist length, fine hair. All the snoods are strung with ribbon to hold them on (you will need bobby pins to hold it in place). I will include instructions on how to wear them with each purchase.

"Red Rose" Snood
Cotton crochet thread, color: dark red, "amber" colored rose-shaped glass beads and clear and amber colored bugal beads, Dark Red Ribbon. Better for longer hair. $15

The snoods run in price from $10 to $25 plus $5 for shipping. If you are interested, please contact me by commenting here, on the individual entries or by emailing me at joandotjoankeithatgmaildotcom.

I will be away from home between August 24th and August 30th with limited access to my email and LJ. Please do not be alarmed if I do not respond immediately. I will be checking my email and journal every couple of days while I am away and taking note of what I see there. Our move date is currently the last full week of September, so if you wish to purchase a snood and want to receive it before the end of October, please contact me before Sept. 21st (Fall Equinox).

My thanks,

Joan Keith

Perseid Meteor Shower 2009: Don’t Miss Tonight’s Show

"As tonight bleeds into tomorrow morning, the earth will be hurtling through a long skein of dust and rocks. Lucky for us, the result of our bombardment will not be annihilation, but rather one of the richest natural light shows of the year—the Perseid meteor shower. Here's how to watch.

The Perseids (named for the constellation Perseus and the spot where they appear to originate in the sky) grace us once a year as the earth passes through a trail of dust and ice particles spewed out in the wake of the comet Swift-Tuttle.

If you’ve never caught it before, tonight is slated to be a good showing for the shower, marred only by a gibbous moon. For best viewing, get away from city lights and lie down in the darkest place you can find either during tomorrow’s early morning hours, or after sundown tonight (but before the moon rises high in the sky—around 10 or 11 PM.)

Shooting stars are supposed to peak between midnight and dawn August 12th as the earth rotates in the direction of it’s own spin, catching more bits and pieces, though the large Moon may obscure some of the show. In the late hours of August 11th meanwhile, the Moon will still be low in the sky and flashes should be brighter, but less frequent. A good strategy might be to time your viewing to try to catch the best of both conditions.

Perseid meteoroids enter the earth’s atmosphere at 133,200 mph, reaching up to 3000 degrees Fahrenheit as they burn up. An extra boon to viewing earlier in the evening is the possibility of seeing some “Earthgrazers”, meteors that skim the atmosphere like a skipped stone leaving a long, colorful tail.

Don’t forget to bring a pillow."

I'm going to be taking a break

I hope I'm not being too dramatic posting this here, but I also didn't want to just disappear without explanation.

I haven't been well lately and yesterday the doctor indicated there might be further bad news ahead, not just a slow steady recovery.

As such I just don't see myself swapping in the near future, but I'm afraid if I stay I might be tempted to sign up for further swaps that I'm not able to do a very good job with.

So I'm going to be leaving the community.  Hopefully I'll be able to re-join later if my health improves.

Thanks to the community for so many wonderful swaps and great friendships.

nuh uh!, happy

(no subject)

Hi guys... for some reason I am not added to Fms.. but am added to chatter..  I only discovered this when  I tried to post my member survey and sign up for this months swap, but couldn't..
I dont know if I only -thought- I was added earlier or if I was and something happened..

I hope this post is appropriate. I just discovered FMS and am really excited to try it out. I've never done a swap before. I have sent packages in friends in college, friends who have moved, and buddies that need to be cheered up!

I had a great great group I was a part of about 5 years ago for several years that studied books together, celebrated the seasons, created art, shared food, dance and sang on the beach, and had a close, special bond that was utterly magickal. I'm in magickal groups now as well but they aren't as lighthearted or so singular as the aforementioned one. When I saw a couple of the pictures of the swap goodies, it reminded me of my old group in a very special nostalgic sort of way.

Anyone that might want to share art, poetry, musings, inspiration, or pen pals, snail mail or on LJ, please friend me.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

This month, we don't really need a swap survey, since we're all sending (gently) used items. We do encourage you to talk to your partner though, and see if there's anything they're looking for that you want to get rid of!

What do you do to help reduce, reuse, and recycle? Do you have any tips for someone who is just starting to try to save the earth? Do you have any plans to celebrate Earth Day?

Did I miss the signup post for the April swap over at full_moon_swaps ? I thought signup was supposed to start March 18 (yesterday) but can't find the post...
